Behaviorist

Chloe was referred to a behaviorist to help with her inability to process emotions, especially anger. This lady is a saint. Her name is Eliza. Eliza visits both the daycare and our home to work with Chloe who is about 15months old at this point.

Eliza is saddened by how angry and untrusting Chloe is. She was at the daycare before a teacher changed in her class and Chloe’s behavior changed drastically with the new teacher. Eliza has noticed that adults have to earn their trust with her. Chloe tends to play in isolation which is also a concern.

Through books, active listening/redirection, and reaction suggestions to me as the caregiver… improvement has been observed. She’s no longer banging her head on the floor (scary in some situations) and has stopped trying to throw anything she can when she’s angry. I have learned to acknowledge her anger and talk her through it. I should have a Ph.D. in child psychology when this is all over with.

Eliza accompanied Chloe during a visitation. Eliza was in tears afterward. “That baby has been through something awful. The sad thing is, we may never know. The way she acts in the visits only validates that she was abused.”

Eliza plans to work with her until it’s deemed unnecessary… which is always a happy ending to a therapist.
