Our 1st session

Mark and I sign onto our virtual meeting with Miss Mary for our intake appointment. This is our opportunity to discuss our concerns and for her to formulate her treatment plan (or determine if counseling wouldn’t be helpful). We explain our observations, concerns, and what we love about Abby. We know that she is a sweet, funny, and smart (very smart) little girl… but she’s struggling and we feel we cannot help her.

Miss Mary took in all the information we threw at her over the course of 30min and felt that counseling is definitely something she feels would be beneficial. She reassured us that if they feel, at any point, any additional services or evaluations would be helpful they would tell us immediately. She also explained that her company takes a holistic approach with counseling. The parents are just as involved as the child. It’s believed that the parents are what put actions in place since they are with the child 24/7. She plans to meet with Mark and I for a portion of each appointment to discuss any challenges or success stories of the past week and how we can implement any practices/ideas for the upcoming week (as needed). I like that! Giving us the tools to be able to react to her behaviors is huge. I can see this is going to work well, thankfully we are both open to learning more of how to help our girl.

She met with Abby the last few minutes to introduce herself. Miss Mary quickly learned that Abby won’t be shy and will probably trust her quickly. That’s a relief. Hopefully they can work through whatever she’s struggling with.

We have a meeting scheduled for next week: Session 2.
